My LA life is a mix of being an artist and business person. When you try to fit into so many different worlds and selves, it’s not the easiest thing to negotiate your identity and intention with yourself. Also, just logistically, it’s not the easiest thing to do. There are only so many hours of the day. Best practice in life seems to focus on just 1 thing. My deadline for starting to develop and act on that focus is May 8. Until then…
- Starting my consulting business
Working with a partner I met through a mutual friend. We’re helping with brand, strategy, and business development, with some emphasis on fashion. We’re sort of working on a related tech startup too, but that’s a little less defined. I hope this becomes successful! I don’t really want to wait tables at California Pizza Kitchen, but I’ll do it if it means free pizza. Here’s us on set in DTLA last week:
2. Writing music
The first photo is a guy dragging us into the bathroom and turning out the lights for the performance. iPhone flashlight came in handy. Generally, I am trying to write music – myself and co-writes with other people.
Some lyrics/chords from a recent cowrite:
Drop Like Autumn Leaves

Em C x3
Walked 1000 miles to the Gulf
Wildest way he could take
Hiked an old trail down Bloody Canyon

All the way to Mono Lake.
V2
His written words sought to change
Our angle of vision
He wanted all of us to understand
Divine presence in creation

Am F C G
Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees
Your cares will drop like autumn leaves
The winds will blow their freshness into you, and the storms their energies
Am G
Your cares will drop like autumn leaves
Drop like autumn leaves
Br
Bb C Bb F x2 C E7
Everybody needs a place to play in and a place to pray in
One touch of nature heals body and soul and makes all the world kin
Bringing peace from within
3. Writing and starting a writing group
No photos, but I spend 3-4 hours a day writing, and I have a monthly women’s writing group.
4. Acting
I’m trying to memorize lines while ellipticizing at the gym and watching the news. Could this BE more LA?
5. Hiking
Met my old boss Eric at Fryman Canyon for a morning hike. I also went to Runyon finally with my friend Nicole for a hike. These aren’t exactly hikes though…they’re more like semi-steep well-marked nature walks.
6. Beaching!
Of course.
7. Trying my best to start cooking something and being a normal human instead of staring into an abyss of wheat thins and peanut butter in my cabinet
8. Reading quality meta-literature (and absorbing none of it)
9. Dating
What a disaster.
10. Loving this dog that hangs out in front of my door
